Wednesday storm

Good afternoon Western Isles a special update on Wednesdays storm and Impacts for the Western isles.

On Tuesday morning the Met Office issued weather warning for the Western Isles for strong winds for Wednesday. The warning comes into force at 09:00 Wednesday and expires at 23:59 Wednesday evening. Yellow means be aware. The full warning can be found via the Met Office website and app.

Now the Met office warning indicates wind speeds gusting 60 to 70 mph. The very strongest of these are expected for the Uists and Barra on Wednesday and increasing as the day goes on. We are also going to see heavy and at times persistent rain and this could be thundery at times.

Its going to be windy all day on Wednesday but I expect the peak for us to be during the late afternoon and evening. Winds direction my cause some issues with causeways and If anything gets closed or I hear about any closures I will update the page accordingly.

This wont be one of the worst storms we see the winter. I think its quite possibly borderline on getting a weather warning. For some parts of the Western Isles it will feel like a normal windy day. But with wind speeds gusting 60 to 70 mph across the Uists and Barra its worth taking note of and the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning so they think it warrants one.

Of course things can and will change. I will keep you update. I will do a full in depth forecast this evening for Wednesday. A weather watch video will also go up later with more information.
