Hogmanay extra forecast –

Good evening Western Isles this is an additonal forecasting covering this evening and the early hours of Tuesday morning. Many people are out and about this evening with additional events going on to mark the 100 years since the sinking of the Iolaire.

There is some mostly light rain across Lewis this evening. But most of the rain has now cleared away. It took a little longer then expected during the course of today. We are seeing clearing skies and winds have eased down from earlier. Still gusting around 20 to 30 mph with some gusts reaching 40 mph.

This evening and overnight will be mostly light. A few isolated showers around. Its going to be a chilly one. Temps will be around 5C to 7C but it will feel colder in the wind chill. A mixture of clear skies and cloud as we go overnight into Tuesday and into the New year.

Overall its going to be a fairly decent evening and night especially for this time of year. For most it will stay dry.

On the final day of 2018 we were seeing a wet start to the day. Strong gusty winds. It’s still mild. Winds have gusted 50 mph.

Today….. the winds will stay strong as the day goes on. Any rain should clear away. Some sunny spells but the cloud dominating and turning colder this evening.

New Year’s Day…… colder but more settled.

Wednesday…… high pressure firmly in charge. Mostly dry and settled.

Thursday…. staying settled plenty of cloud and winds increasing again.

Week ahead forecast – High pressure dominates.

Good evening Western Isles as we leave 2018 high pressure will dominate the weather. Going to stay fairly windy for much of the week but nothing significant.

New Years Day – Look set to be a fine and dry day. Plenty of cloud with some sunny spells. Winds will ease and it will become colder with a risk of frost and ice into the evening. Winds will be North Westerly and North Easterly direction around 5 to 25 mph and temps will range from 2C to 9C

Wednesday – Another very settled day. Some light rain possible. Cloud dominating with some sunny spells. Risk for some morning frost and ice. Winds will increase a little as we go into the evening. Winds will be Southerly and South Westerly direction and temps will range from 2C to 8C

Thursday – Cloudy once again. Some light rain and drizzle especially in the evening. Some sunny spells are possible. Its going to become milder again. Winds will be South Westerly direction around 20 to 40 mph and temps will range from 6C to 10C

Friday – yes more cloud yippee! Some rain as we go overnight into Friday. Become drier as the day goes on. Staying windy and mild. Winds will be South Westerly direction around 20 to 40 mph and temps will range from 7C to 10C

Across the highlands and islands on Friday Stornoway was the sunniest with 1.2 hours of sunshine.

Today….. the winds will ease we will see some sunshine during the morning and early afternoon increasingly cloudy later with some rain pushing in tonight.

Good evening Western Isles on this Thursday evening we are seeing rain slowly push in the Western Isles. Winds are also starting to increase. The rain will reach all parts during the evening and will be heavy at times.

Overnight….. We are going to see heavy rain across the Western Isles. there is a risk some of these showers could be thundery. Some dry spells with some clear skies for a time. It will be windy with the strongest gusts across the Uists and Barra gusting 40 to 50 mph. 30 to 40 mph across Lewis and Harris.

Morning and afternoon…… Will be mostly fine and dry. The odd shower is possible. Winds will ease down and there will be plenty of cloud. With some decent sunny spells in the breaks. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.
