Yesterday across the highlands and islands Harris Quidnish was the wettest with 8.0 mm of rain and South Uist range had the highest maximum temperature of 8.1C

Today…. a few showers and the cloud dominating. But we will see some sunshine this will be prolonged at times. Mostly light winds.

Saturday….. cloudy and Showery with light winds.

Sunday….. fine dry and sunny.

Overnight…… We are going to see a few showers around. Some of these heavy at times. Plenty of cloud with a few clear spells. Winds of 5 to 15 mph.

Friday day….. A few showers that could be heavy at times possibly thundery but for most they should be light. Some sunshine. Even prolonged at times. Plenty of stubborn cloud and that will increase as we go into the evening.

Overnight….. We are going to see a mixture of clear skies and cloud. A few showers mainly across the Uists and Barra. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Thursday day….. A showery day but not everyone will see showers. The greatest risk will be across the Uists and Barra. Showers will be heavy at times and possibly thundery. The cloud is going to dominate but we will see some sunny spells. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Evening….. The showers will become more isolated and scattered. Plenty of clear skies. Winds of 5 to 15 mph.

Winds will be South Easterly direction the further North you are. South Westerly direction for the Uists and Barra. Temps will range from 5C to 9C

Overnight…… We are going to see further showers pushing across the Western Isles. In between we are seeing plenty of clear skies. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Morning….. Once again further showers moving across the Western Isles. Some of these will be heavy. In between some decent sunny spells. Drier across Lewis and Harris. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Afternoon…. An increase in the showers again these will be heavy at times. Some sunny spells before sunset. Drier across Lewis and Harris. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Evening….. Another showery evening. A mixture of clear skies and showers. Becoming lighter and slowly more scattered. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

On this Tuesday morning we are seeing heavy rain across most of the Western isles. This rain is heavy and persistent. Winds gusting 70 to 80 mph have been recorded across the Uists and Barra.

Across the highlands and islands on Monday Stornoway had the highest maximum temperature of 11.1C and South Uist range had the highest rainfall of 4.2 mm.

Today….. the heavy rain and strong winds will clear as the morning goes on. We will see some sunny spells and showers later. Winds down to around 20 to 40 mph. Colder this evening.

Wednesday….. will be breezy and showery.

Thursday….. lighter winds and showery.

Friday……. further rain and winds increasing again.

On this Monday morning we are seeing an overcast start to the day. A few showers around. Some clear skies.

Across the highlands and islands on Sunday Stornoway was the sunniest with 2.0 hours of sunshine.

Today….. a largely dry morning with a few showers this morning. Winds have eased. Winds will increase as the day goes on. With winds gusting 40 mph across Lewis and Harris later reaching 50/60 mph across the Uists and Barra. Heavy rain will push across the entire Western isles from this afternoon onwards.

Tuesday….. early morning heavy rain and gales. Showery behind some sunny spells.

Wednesday….. breezy and showery.

Thursday….. becoming more settled for a time.

Good evening Western Isles on this Sunday evening its still raining. Heavy and at times intense showers are progressing across the Western Isles.

Overnight….. These showers will gradually die out as the night goes. We are going to see a mixture of clear skies and cloud. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Morning….. We are going to see an overcast morning. It should be mostly dry. A few showers around. Some sunny spells but the cloud will dominate. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Afternoon……. The North and South divide sets up again. Staying fairly dry across Lewis and Harris with a few showers here. Cloud dominating. Winds of 20 to 40 mph. Across the Uists and Barra. Further heavy rain is going to spread in. We are also going to see gales. Winds of 30 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph.

Evening….. Winds of 50 to 60 mph and further heavy rain which will push further northward. Staying drier across Lewis and Harris but rain will eventually reach all parts. Winds will be lighter across Lewis and Harris around 30 to 40 mph.

Winds will be South Westerly and will shift to come in from the South Easterly direction. Temps will range from 6C to 11C

Time for the next white Christmas forecast with just over a week to go and it’s looking fairly settled. High pressure for the south of the UK and a few wintry showers expected across the highlands of Scotland.

Still a long way off and plenty can and will change between now and then. My updates will become daily from this week. So keep everything crossed.

At this stage i reckon it’s about a 40% chance of a Western Isles white Christmas.

Across the highlands and islands on Saturday south Uist range was the wettest with 35.4 mm of rain.

Today….. we are going to see a showery day. Some of these heavy and possibly thundery. In between some decent sunshine. Gusty winds but less strong then we have seen off late.

Monday….. winds increase again with gales into the evening and further spells of heavy rain.

Tuesday….. will be a blustery and showery day.

Wednesday….. slowly becoming more settled.

Overnight….. We are going to see further rain. This will gradually become lighter as the night goes on. It will become more showery. Some of these showers will be wintry in nature. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Morning…… A mixture of sunshine and showers. These could be heavy at times. Possibly thunder in nature. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Afternoon…. A few more heavier showers are expected during the afternoon and again some of these could be thundery in nature. Some sunny intervals in between. Winds of 10 to 40 mph.

On this Saturday morning we are seeing a windy morning once again. Some rain and this is wintry in places as you can see by radar turning to snow over the higher ground of Harris. Winds have been gusting 50/60 mph.

Across the highlands and islands on Friday south Uist range was the wettest with 0.8 mm of rain.

Today….. we are going to see strong winds and the very strongest of this will be across the Uists and Barra. Gusting 40/50 mph across Lewis and Harris. 60/70 mph across the Uists and Barra. It’s going to be a wet day with heavy and persistent rain. Some lighter spells at times. At times this rain will fall as snow mainly over higher ground. With the strong winds and heavy rain this could result in tricky conditions at times.

Sunday….. will be a breezy and showery day.

Monday….. the next area of low pressure comes pushing in. Here we shall see gales once more with further rain.

Tuesday….. should see a more settled day.

As of 18:30 on this Friday evening there are NO weather warnings out for the Western Isles. However I do expect us to have some bad weather on Saturday. This is one of those tricky forecasts. It will be rain we will be dealing with on Saturday and not expected to be the freezing rain that the mainland are dealing with. But strong winds are persistent rain are likely to make unpleasant evening. I will be watching the situation unfold closely.

Overnight…… We are going to see further spells of rain. These will be heavy at times. Some lighter. Plenty of cloud with some clear skies. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph and reaching 60 mph across the Uists and Barra.

Morning….. Further spells of rain which are going to be heavy at times. Some dry interludes. Cloud is going to be dominate. But we could see some sunny spells. Winds of 15 to 30 mph across the Lewis and Harris gusting 50 to 60 mph across the Uists and Barra.

Afternoon…… The winds are expected to ramp up further across the Uists and Barra. Winds gust 50 to 65 mph with some gusts in excess of 70 mph cannot be ruled out. Across Lewis and Harris gusting 30 to 40 mph. Further spells of rain which will be heavy and at times possibly wintry in nature.

Evening….. Some uncertainty on exact timing but we are expected to see heavy and persitant rain push across the Western Isles. Between later afternoon into the evening. Along with strong gusty winds this could result in difficult conditons. This rain could turn wintry for a time. A chance of turning to snow over higher ground. Again strongest of the winds over the Uists and Barra. Winds gusting 40 to 60 mph. lighter across Lewis and Harris 20 to 40 mph here.

Winds will be South Easterly direction and temps will range from 3C to 8C but it will feel more like -2C to -3C

On this Wednesday morning we are seeing a band of rain move across the Western isles. Plenty of cloud around and strong winds. It’s mild once again.

Across the highlands and islands on Tuesday Stornoway was the sunniest with 1.3 hours of sunshine and South Uist range was the wettest with 2.4 mm of rain.

Today…. an overcast day with some sunny intervals during the afternoon. Rain that will be heavy at times. It’s going to be windy with gales at times. Winds gusting 40/50 mph across the Uists and Barra.

Thursday….. will be windy and cloudy.

Friday….. windy and cloudy with rain.

Saturday…… will be wet and windy.

The days are racing past now with just two weeks till the big day. 2 weeks is still a very long time in weather and we are back looking at a settled period for Christmas day with the greatest risk of snowfall in Scotland across the Highlands. The problem with December is out the 3 months of winter it tends to be the mildest. As recent day temperatures in the high single figures and pushing towards double figures attests to that.

December 2015 even recorded temperatures of 17.2C in some locations in the UK. Sea temperatures at this time of year still tend to be relatively warm. So this has an impact on air-masses that go over it.

So at this stage I would suggest we have about 40% chance of seeing a Western Isles White Christmas.

Overnight…… We are going to see further spells of rain. This rain will be heavy at times. The cloud is going to dominate and its going to be windy. 20 to 40 mph across Lewis and Harris. 40 to 50 mph across the Uists and Barra.
