Saturdays forecast – Windy, Wet, Wintry.

Good evening Western Isles on this Friday evening we are seeing heavy rain across most of the Western Isles. Drier across South Uist and Barra.

A Met Office Yellow warning for snow and ice was issued by the Met Office. The warning comes into force at 18:00 Saturday evening and expires at 11:00 Sunday morning. The full warning can be found via the Met Office website or app.

Overnight – We are going to see persistent and at times heavy rain across the entire Western Isles. The wind will also increase. Winds of 5 to 30 mph.

Morning – We are also going to see further spells of persistent rain across the Western Isles. This will be heavy at times and be accompanied by strong winds. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph across the Uists and Barra.

Afternoon – The winds are going to increase further. More persistent and heavy rain. But the rain will turn increasingly wintry with sleet and snow. The worst of the snow will fall over higher ground but we could see a covering to lower levels for a time. We could see blizzard conditions over higher ground in the strong winds. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph.

Evening – The showers will become squally and wintry. The could be thundery at times. Snow across higher grounds down to lower levels widely. Greatest risk as ever across Lewis and Harris. We are also going to stronger winds across the Uists and Barra. In sheltered areas we are going to see frost and Ice. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph with some gusts reaching 70 mph across the Uists and Barra.

Winds will be Westerly and South Westerly direction shifting Northerly and North Easterly direction during the middle of the day. Temps will range from 2C to 8C but feeling more like -4C to -5C in the wind chill.
