On this Saturday afternoon, we are seeing fine and dry weather across the Western Isles. Plenty of blue skies and sunshine. Light winds.
The rest of this evening for most will be fine and dry. the odd light shower cannot be ruled out. We are going to see cloud increasing especially for the Uists and Barra.
Today’s view from space highlights the mixture of sunshine and cloud.
Sunday across the Western Isles will see the cloud increasing into all parts. It will be a cloud dominating day. Some light rain and drizzle and winds will increase 20 to 30 mph.
Monday across the Western Isles will see rain to start the day which will be heavy and persistent. After this clears we are going to see a mostly dry end to the day. Winds will increase again.
Monday we can see Hurricane Gabrielle on the chart. Showery across the UK drier for the South and East.
Tuesday across the Western Isles and we are going to see gales and heavy and persistent rain. Some uncertainty yet. But winds could gust 40 to 50 mph for a time. The heaviest of the rain is expected during the evening.
Tuesday for most of the UK will be fine and dry with high pressure in charge. However rain and gales for the North West. you can still see hurricane Gabrielle slowly moving to the northeast.
In Global weather news tropical storm Gabrielle is expected to strengthen on Monday and become a hurricane. It will find a pocket of warmer waters as well as more favourable conditions and it will continue to move North East over the course of next week and will weaken slowly. It will become post-tropical. There is a chance that the system could bring unsettled conditions to the Western isles. however, there is a long way off as yet and a lot will change between now and then. I will keep you updated.
Dorian is still a hurricane and will make landfall on Nova Scotia in the next 24 hours. The first time the area has been hit by a Hurricane since 2010 with Hurricane Earl.
In the Western Pacific, Typhoon Lingling has made landfall on North Korea and Typhoon Faxai is heading towards Japan.
