7 Days in weather – 12th April

Hello and welcome to the 7 days in weather. In this new series of blogs we a take a look back at the last 7 days of weather across the Island,  UK and across the globe. We have plenty to talk about today.

UK Weather – 

In the Western Isles, we had the warmest day of the year so far.  On Thursday 13.4C was recorded at South Uist and 13.0C at Stornoway Airport. Both Met Office sites.

The UK as a whole has broken the highest temperature of the year for 4 consecutive days in a row. There is a chance it could be broken again today (Sunday). Saturday 11th April witnessed 25.5C being recorded at St James Park.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms for today for parts of England and Wales. More information below

Global Weather – 

Cyclone Harold –

Earlier in the week cyclone Harlod tore across the pacfic islands of Vanautu. It ramped up to a Category 5 cyclone. 165 mph winds and widespread damage to the tiny island nation.

Other island impaced were fiji, Solomon islands and Tonga. This is the most powerful cyclone of the season and a late in the year cyclone for the Southern Hempishere. The main tropical acitvty now siwtches to the Northern hempishere as the Southern moves towards winter.

 

USA Storms –

Powerful storms with long tracked tornados are possible across the united states on Sunday. Hail and strong winds will also accompany the tornadoes. The Storm prediction centre in the USA has issued a level 4 out of 5 for these storms. This is a moderate risk which is the 4th highest level.
