Weather Watch 25th July 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Saturday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Saturday afternoon we are seeing mainly fine and dry conditions. A mixture of sunshine and cloud. A few patchy light showers. Winds are under 20 mph and a max temp so far of 16C

Today’s view from space

Currently the Met Office has a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in place for parts of England till 23:59 this evening. The full warning and latest updates can be found via the Met Office website or app.

Sunday across the islands we are going to see a mixture of sunshine and showers. Which at times will merge into some longer spells of rain. Winds will also increase as the day goes on. Gusting 30 to 40 mph at times.

Across the UK and low pressure dominates. A day of sunshine and showers across the UK with the bulk of the wet and windy weather in the North West of Scotland. Sunshine and showers for most with the best of the drier and brighter conditions for the South East.

Monday across the islands and another day of sunshine and showers with the rain merging into some longer spells. We are going to see further brisk winds gusting 30 to 40 mph.

Across the UK multiple areas of low pressure are in play with one over Ireland and one to the North of Scotland. Heavy rain and blustery winds will be a feature of the UKs weather on Monday.

Tuesday across the islands once again we are going to see further Sunshine and showers. Feeling chilly in the brisk North Westerly wind gusting 30 mph.

Across the UK low pressure sit to the North of Scotland. Showery conditions are expected on Tuesday but becoming drier and brighter with increasing sunshine later.

Long range – For the islands, things are expected to stay unsettled on Wednesday but becoming drier and brighter possibly even warmer for the end of next week.

Weather news

The main talking points are still the tropics where Hurricane Hanna is bearing down on Texas and is already brining strong winds, rain and storm surge ahead of landfall. Hurricane chaser iCyclone is on the ground to intercept.

Into the Caribbean and things are not looking great for Gonzalo bringing rain to the windward islands. But is weakening rapidly and expected to dissipate tomorrow.

Hurricane Douglas barrels towards Hawaii as a category 2 hurricane. Its weakening. However it will bring rain and strong winds to the islands this weekend.
