Weather Watch 5th August 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Wednesdays Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Wednesday afternoon we are seeing are seeing some light rain and drizzle. Which is merging into some longer spells of rain at times. This is mainly over parts of Lewis at the moment. Its fairly overcast day with some sunshine. Winds are under 20 mph and max temp so far of 15C

It should become drier and brighter as we go into this evening with a few lingering showers and some light rain.

We are now going to take a look at the next few days weather. All the images shown below come from the Met office and can be found by following this link

Thursday – Across the Western Isles we will see fine and dry conditions for most of the day. The odd shower cannot be ruled out. We should see plenty of sunshine. Prolonged at times. It will feel warm in the increasing wind. Winds gusting 40 mph widely and possibly reaching 50 mph at times for the Uists and Barra. Temperatures could reach 20C

For the UK some morning rain and drizzle which will clear away for most. It will be mainly fine and dry but wind will increase into the West with an area of low pressure 991mb.

Friday– Across the Western Isles we are going to see outbreaks of rain which will be heavy at times. We are also going to see a drop in the temperatures and it will be cooler then on Thursday. Blustery winds at times.

Across the UK and the bulk of the rain will be confined to Scotland and Northern ireland. Elsewhere mainly dry and hot again in the South East. With temperatures getting well into the 30s in parts of England.

Saturday – for the Western Isles is expected to be fine dry and sunny. Brisk winds and feeling warm again.

Across the UK high pressure is in charge. Mainly fine and dry with sunshine and feeling hot again for the South. Winds mainly light.

Long range – For the Western Isles next week looks fairly settled dry and warm. Plenty will change between now and then but it looks decent.

UK Weather News

Tuesday witnessed large amounts of rainfall for the West Coast of Scotland. This table comes from the Scottish Environment protection agency.

At the rest and be thankful in Argyll a landslide caused the road to be blocked. Over £80 million has been spent into the area to try to prevent these landslides.

Into the tropics and last National Hurricane Centre advisory was issued on Isaias as it races across Canada.
