Weather Watch 6th September 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Sundays Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Sunday afternoon we are seeing a mixture of sunshine and cloud. Rain awaits out in the wings in the Atlantic for later today and overnight. Winds at the moment are mostly light. Temps have recovered from the low of 5.2C this morning. 15.2C the highest so far today.

5.2C was recorded at Stornoway Airport this morning at 6am and was up to 13.4C by 9am this graph below highlights the increase.

Western Isles forecast – (UK outlook follows below)

Monday – We are going to see heavy overnight rain which will last into the morning. This rain will be slow moving at times. Becoming lighter with rain and drizzle by late morning. The afternoon and evening will be overcast with showers. Occasional sunny spells. It will be windy with winds gusting 40 to 50 mph during the early hours of Monday but the rest of Monday will see winds gusting 30 to 40 mph. This is all in association with an area of low pressure over Iceland 971 mb and its associated fronts. Winds will be from the West and South West and temps of 9C to 15C

Tuesday – A day of sunshine and showers. These heavy at times. It will be another blustery day. Some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine in between the showers. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. We are sandwiched in between an area of high pressure to our South and low pressure to our North.

Wednesday – Is expected to be a more settled day as high pressure moves in. However for us it will stay winds with further spells of strong wind gusting 40 to 50 mph. It will be mainly dry with sunshine and cloud and a few scattered showers.

UK forecast –

Monday will see a wet and windy start for the North West of Scotland and into Northern Ireland. The rain will clear away. Further South for England and Wales after a chilly night with some mist and fog things will improve with plenty of sunshine here. Tuesday rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland but better for the East Coast. Staying windy in the North West. Sunshine and scattered showers for England and Wales. Wednesday for most a fine dry and settled day with brisk winds but a few showers around in the morning but clearing away for most by the end of the day.

In the Western Pacific we have Typhoon Haishen is heading towards landfall in South Korea in the coming days.
