Weather Watch 7th September 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Mondays Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Monday afternoon we are seeing overcast conditions with some light rain and drizzle. Winds have eased to around to 20 to 30 mph after gusting to 45 mph earlier today. Highest temp so far today of 15.1C

Western Isles forecast – (UK outlook follows below)

Tuesday – We are going to see a night of showers and some light rain. Into the morning sunshine and cloud with a few showers. A heavier band of rain will move across the entire Western Isles during the late morning afternoon and should clear for all by late evening. Showery there after. Some decent and prolonged morning sunshine but there will be plenty of cloud. Winds will gust 20 to. 30 mph. We could see some gusts reaching 40 mph for a time. Winds will be from the South West and max temp of 15C

Wednesday – A day of sunshine and cloud. We are going to see some showers at times these will be heavy and we are also going to see brisk winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. There is a chance of some gusts reaching 50 mph during the late afternoon. Winds will be from the North West.

Thursday – Not much change expected on Thursday again with further sunshine and showers. It will feel cooler and winds again from the North West direction gusting 30 to 40 mph.

Long range – Just a little early eye on Sundays weather. There is a chance we could see some winds gusting 60 mph. A while off yet but worth keeping an eye on.

UK forecast

Tuesday will see mainly fine and dry conditions with a few showers. Plenty of sunshine. But heavy rain for North West Scotland and the islands. Windy here. Wednesday showers to start for most. Most frequent in the far North West. Becoming dry for most away from the West coast of Scotland. Fine and dry day with mainly light winds for Thursday apart from North West Scotland and the inner and outer hebrides where rain will persist with stronger winds.

For us in the Western Isles it has been a wet start to September with almost as much rainfall in the first week as the whole of August.

Global Weather News

We have two tropical depressions 17 and 18 in the Atlantic. Both these systems are expected to become tropical storms later today.

Typhoon Haishen made landfall on South Korea earlier today.
