Weather Watch 1st December 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Tuesday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Tuesday afternoon we are seeing rain and drizzle in places drier for the Uists and Barra. Mainly overcast with some clear spells. Winds gusting to 20 mph and today’s high so far of 10.5C

Western Isles forecast – (UK forecast to follow)

Wednesday – High pressure sits to the South West of the UK. Low pressure 977 mb far to our North. We are going to see a strong cold airflow. Winds gusting 30 to 40 mph. We are going to see sunshine and showers. Thes falling as rain and sleet. Turning more wintry later with sleet and snow. Risk of frost and ice later. Cold in the wind chill. Temps of -1C to 7C and feeling colder in the wind chill. Winds will be from the South West.

Thursday – Low pressure sits close by and winds ease on Thursday. Early hours on Thursday is when we see the greatest risk of snow and colder temperatures. The rest of Thursday will see sunshine and wintry showers. Rain sleet snow. It will be a cold day with frost and ice. Staying cold throughout the day. Winds under 20 mph from variable directions. Temps of -1C to 5C

Friday – A lot of uncertainty as yet but the low pressure system across the North Sea 972 mb will bring unsettled conditions and a warm front racing across the North. This will bring snow and rain to the highlands of Scotland and will reach us by the evening and we are expecting that to be falling as rain by that point. After a dry start rain later and ever increasing winds. Winds gusting 40 to 50 mph. It will become milder. Temps of 1C to 7C but it will feel colder in the wind chill. Winds will be from the North and it will feel colder in the wind chill.

Wednesday wintry showers across Scotland. Drier in the South East. Rain for Wales and parts of England. Spells of rain for most wintry at times across parts of the UK on Thursday. Friday strong winds and rain with wintry showers with low pressure in charge.

There is also a snow and ice warning in place for Central parts of Scotland

Stornoway was the sunniest place in the UK on Monday with 2.5 hours of sunshine. In June we had 15.8 hours
