Thursday’s forecast – cold and wintry.

Firstly sorry for the later update. I wanted to see how conditions are playing out before I did my forecast for Thursday.

A reminder we are under a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice until 12:00 Thursday afternoon. The full warning and latest updates can be found via the Met Office website or app.

A statement from the Highlands and Islands police reporting heavy snow on the Isle of Lewis on the A857 and A859 full details of that can be found via there social media channels.

We are currently seeing rain sleet and snow showers moving across the Western Isles. Temps are close to or below freezing in many spots. Winds gusting 30 to 40 mph at times. Some thundery showers mixed in with some clear skies.

Overnight – We are going to see widespread frost and ice. Mist and fog will form in some spots. Temps down to -2C. We could see the odd location slightly lower. Further wintry rain sleet and snow showers. This could lead to some accumulations in places. Some heavier snow is likely over higher ground. Some clear spells in between. Some hail mixed in for good measure with the odd rumble of thunder at times. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Morning and afternoon – Further rain, sleet and snow showers. These heavy at times. We could see some further accumulations of snow at times but a lot of uncertainty about that. We are going to see some sunny spells in between. The showers will decrease in frequency and become more scattered as the day goes on. Some lingering mist and fog patches. The odd rumble of thunder is possible at times. Staying icy and frosty with temps struggling to recover. Winds of 10 to 25 mph.

Evening – A few scattered showers but by this point most places should be mainly dry. A mixture of clear skies and cloud. Some mist and fog patches forming once again and winds dipping under 20 mph. A widespread frost and ice once again and temps dropping below freezing.

Winds will be from the South West and temps of -3C to 6C
