Good afternoon and welcome to Wednesday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.
On this Wednesday afternoon we are seeing frequent wintry showers moving across the islands. Rain sleet and snow in places. In between some clear spells. Temps down to 2/3C in spots. Todays high of 8.8C so far. Winds gusting 30 to 40 mph.

Western Isles forecast – (UK forecast to follow)
Thursday – Low pressure dominates the weather across the UK. It is going to be a cold day across the Western isles. Overnight rain sleet and snow. We could see snow to lower levels for a time. Snow is likely over higher ground. It is going to be a frosty and icy night. Some mist and fog patches are likely during Thursday. Winds will be light on Thursday under 20 mph. Further spells of rain, sleet and snow. Heavy showers at times and possibly thundery. Some sunny spells. Winds will be from the West. Temps of -2C to 6C
Friday – again low pressure dominates across the UK. Low 967 mb in the North Sea. An active warm front will bring rain and snow to the highlands of Scotland. Warnings issued. It will turn to rain by the time it reaches us in the Western Isles. A cold icy start to the day with some wintry showers. Winds will switch to come in from the North and North East. Rain will arrive later as mentioned before. Winds will also increase gusting 30 to 40 mph and times reaching 50 mph for the Uists and Barra. The cloud will dominate with some sunny spells. Temps of 1C to 8C
Saturday – Again low dominates across the UK 983 mb. Across the Western Isles on Saturday we are going to see a mixed bag of day. Sunshine and showers these heavy at times. Winds gusting 30 to 40 mph. Milder temps then we have seen of later but it will be still cold in the wind chill. Winds will be from the North East. Temps of 4C to 9C
UK forecast
Thursday wintry showers and rain. Snow over higher ground and blustery winds. Friday rain heavy at times and snow showers for most parts of the UK with some sunshine. Saturday low pressure clears away slowly becoming drier and brighter with sunshine but still a few lingering spells of rain.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland from midnight this evening until 0800 Thursday morning.
