Weather Watch 17th December 2020

Good afternoon and welcome to Thursday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Thursday evening we are seeing heavy rain slowly sweeping into the Western isles. Dry for now ahead of it. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. Today’s high of 8.9C

Western Isles forecast – (UK forecast to follow)

Friday – Broad low pressure sits out in the atlantic. With fronts moving across the UK. Across the Western isles we are going to see spells of rain heavy at times. The heaviest in the late morning and early afternoon. Sunshine and showers in during the early morning and late afternoon and evening. Winds will gusting 20 to 40 mph the odd gust reaching 50 mph cannot be ruled out. Temps of 6C to 11C but feeling colder in the wind chill.

Saturday – Low pressure sits out in the Atlantic 975 mb. It will bring blustery winds and showers across the Western Isles. These showers will be heavy at times. Some decent spells of sunshine in between. Winds of 20 to 40 mph. Winds will be from the South West. Temps of 7C to 12C but feeling colder in the wind chill.

Sunday – Low pressure sits to the North of the Western Isles. We are going to see another day of sunshine and showers across the Western Isles. These will be heavy at times. The most frequent of the showers are expected across the Uist and Barra. Some decent spells of sunshine in between. Winds of 20 to 35 mph. Winds will be from the South West. Temps of 5C to 9C

UK Weather News

An Amber warning of rain issued for portions of Wales by the Met Office from 0900 Friday until 23:59 Friday evening.

The Amber warning for rain is inside the yellow weather and covers large parts of Wales and south West England. Winds will gust 50 to 60 mph.
