Christmas Eve forecast – Cold.

Good evening Western Isles on this Wednesday evening we are seeing rain and showers moving across the Western Isles. Some of these are wintry in nature. A mixture of clear skies and cloud. Temps are close to or below freezing. Winds under 10 mph for many but gusting 40 mph for Uist and Barra.

We are under a Met Office yellow weather warning for Snow and Ice until 11:00 Tomorrow morning for Lewis, Harris and North Uist. The full warning and latest updates can be found via the Met Office website or app.

Overnight – We are going to see a few wintry showers. A dusting is possible in places possibly over higher ground. Some frost and ice with a mixture of clear skies and cloud. Temps will drop close to or below freezing. Winds of 10 to 30 mph gusting 50 mph first thing for Uist and Barra.

Morning – Further frost and ice. Some lingering wintry showers. Sleet and rain. Some sunshine with plenty of cloud. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Afternoon and evening – Mainly fine and dry but a few scattered showers moving in late evening. Winds for most under 20 mph the odd gust reaching 30 mph cannot be ruled out.

Winds will be from the North and North West. Temps of -2C to 6C

Christmas day – Overcast with winds gusting 30 to 40 mph possibly 50 mph for a time later. A band of heavy rain moves in during the afternoon.

Boxing day – Heavy and persistent rain during the entire day with winds gusting 40 to 50 mph.

Sunday – Cold mainly dry winds easing.
