Weather Watch 6th January 2021

Good afternoon and welcome to Wednesday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Wednesday afternoon we are seeing rain across most of the Western Isles. Heavy in places but for most light. Some sleet and snow showers mixed in. Winds gusting 20 mph. Today’s high of 5.2C

A reminder we are under a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice from 15:00 this afternoon (Wednesday) till 23:59 Thursday evening

Western Isles 3 day weather forecast

Thursday – We are going to see high pressure out to our West with cold air coming down from the North. Sleet and snow showers coming down from the North. It will be cold with widespread frost and ice. Some sunny spells but the cloud will dominate. We could see a covering of snow at times with the greatest risk being over higher ground. Winds of 10 to 30 mph. Winds from the North East. Temps of 0C to 5C

Friday – high pressure moves back 1037 mb. its going to dominate across the Western Isles. It will be cold and icy. Some wintry showers. The cloud will dominate. Some wintry showers but these will decrease in frequency as the day goes on. Frost and ice widespread. Winds will be from the North and North East of 10 to 30 mph. Temps of -2C to 4C

Saturday – Low pressure sits far to our North and high pressure slides away slowly. We are finally going to see a milder day with spells of rain which will be heavy at times. Winds gusting 20 to 30 mph. Winds will be from the West and South West. Temps of 0C to 10C

UK Weather News

A Met Office weather warning has been issued for ice for parts of the East coast of the UK.

Another warning has also been issued for parts of England and Wales for Thursday into Friday

Also a snow warning has been issued for Scotland for Friday
