Weather Watch 18th January 2021

Good afternoon and welcome to Monday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Monday afternoon we are seeing rounds of heavy squally rain moving across the islands. These are persistent in places. Some dry slots with sunny spells in between. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. Today’s high so far of 6.7C

Western Isles 3 day weather forecast

Tuesday – Low pressure sits to our far North with storm Christoph bringing rain to large parts of the UK on Tuesday. For us in the Western Isles we are going to see a few showers to start the day with some frost and ice. Greatest risk for Lewis and Harris. Some of the showers will be wintry at times. The rest of Tuesday mainly fine and dry with sunshine and cloud. A few scattered showers. Some decent spells of sunshine. Risk of frot and ice into the evening again. Winds under 20 mph. Winds will be from the West and South West. Temps of 0C to 7C

Wednesday – Heavy rain will move across most of the UK on Wednesday with storm Christoph. For us in the western Isles we will be in a slack airflow. We are going to see a fine and dry day for most of the Western Isles with some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine. A few scattered showers. Winds will be light but gusting 30 mph into the late evening. We are going to see frost and ice in the morning and evening. Winds will be from the North and North East. Temps of -1C to 5C

Thursday – Storm Christoph moves out into the North Sea and we are going to see strong winds for the Western Isles. We are going to see winds gusting 40 to 50 mph possibly to 60 mph. There is some uncertainty as to yet as to how strong the winds will be. The cloud will be dominating. Spells of rain which will be heavy at times. Possibly turning wintry into the evening. Winds will be from the North and North East. Temps of 1C to 6C but feeling colder in the wind chill.
