The week ahead forecast – Cold sunny start and gales and possibly severe gales to end the week.

Welcome to the week ahead forecast. The full in depth forecast for Monday can be found in the update below this one. It has been a cold winter with a chilly wind from the East. Plenty of sunshine.

Tuesday – The Easterly cold airflow continues. We are going to see some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine. A few wintry showers. Feeling cold in the wind chill once again. Variable amounts of cloud. Frost and ice in sheltered spots. Temps of -2C to 3C feeling very cold in the wind chill.

Wednesday – The winds ease and high pressure builds in. We are going to see some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine. Winds drop under 20 mph finally. Widespread frost and ice. Some wintry showers. Winds will be from the East and South East. Temps of -2C to 4C

Thursday – After a cold icy start to the day. We are going to see some sunshine. Cloud increases as the day goes on. Winds gusting 50 mph by the late evening for Uist and Barra. Gusting 40 mph for Lewis and Harris. It should be mainly dry. Temps of -1C to 3C but feeling cold in the wind chill. Winds will be from the South East.

Friday – Overcast day with winds coming from the South East. Mainly dry but windy day. Winds gusting 30 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph widely. Extremely cold wind chill down to -7C in the strong wind. Some sunny spells. Winds will be from the South East. Temps of -1C to 2C

Next weekend – Staying windy next weekend gusting 50 to 60 mph reaching 70 mph at times for Uist and Barra. Some uncertainty as yet but worth keeping an eye on. Staying mainly dry.
