Good afternoon all. Just wanted to highlight a spell of windy weather across the Western Isles from Thursday to Tuesday next week. At this stage no warnings have been issued and at this stage I am not sure they will.
So why I am bringing this to your attention. Well its looking like a sustained spell of windy weather. Strongest for Uist and Barra widely gusting 40/50 mph during this time period and spells gusting 60 mph and we could see some gusts over the weekend reaching 70/75 mph. As high pressure sits across the East and milder air bumps into the colder as a low pressure moves in from the West. So we could also see some snowfall but that aspect of the forecast comes with some uncertainty. Lewis and Harris at this stage looks set to miss the very worst of the winds.
It’s worth keeping in mind that those kind of winds are not unusual at this time of year they could be disruptive and with the winds coming from the South East could also lead to road closures and possible ferry disruption and loss of power.
I will keep you posted about how things evolve in the coming days via my forecast and the blog. Of course if warnings are issued I will update you.
