Weather Watch 12th February 2021

Good afternoon and welcome to Friday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Friday evening we are seeing mainly fine and dry evening. A mixture of clear skies and cloud. Winds gusting 20 to 30 mph but for Uist and Barra gusting 50 to 60 mph. Today’s high of 5.1C

Saturday – Low pressure to the West of the UK and high pressure to the East. Means strong winds. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph widely reaching 50 to 60 mph for the Uist and Barra. Winds will be from the South East. Approaching weather fronts will bring in sleet and snow showers across the Western Isles. The cloud will dominate with some sunny spells. We will see a dusting of snow for a time to lower levels. Heavier snow over higher ground. Feeling very cold in the wind chill. Some frost and ice in sheltered spots. Temps of -1C to 4C but feeling more like -5C to -8C in the wind chill.

Sunday – On Sunday the isobars become closer. We are going to see strong winds gusting 30 to 50 mph and at times reaching 60 mph. For the Uist and Barra gusting 70 to possibly 80 mph in some exposed locations. Rain heavy at times the cloud dominating. The rain could be wintry for a time. Winds will be from the South East. Temps of 2C to 8C but feeling colder in the wind chill.

Monday – As the low pressure moves away and the isobars become less tightly compacted. We are going to see a day of sunshine and showers with winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. Showers heavy at times. Winds will be from the South and South West. Temps of 5C to 9C

An Ice warning has been issued by the Met Office for large parts of Scotland and Northern England for Saturday into Sunday with freezing rain possible.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Saturday fort Northern Ireland
