Weather Watch 7th March 2021

Good afternoon and welcome to Sunday’s Weather Watch taking a look at the weather for the islands, the UK and around the Globe.

On this Sunday afternoon we are seeing rain and showers moving across the islands. Heavy in places with some drizzle. Cloud mainly dominating with a few sunny spells. Some low cloud and mist. Winds under 20 mph. Today’s high so far of 9.3C

This evening will see further spells of rain and drizzle with some heavier rain moving into Lewis towards the late evening. Cloud dominating and breezy.

Monday – will see a mainly fine and dry day. A few scattered showers with the cloud dominating. A few sunny spells and on the milder side. Low pressure sits out in the North sea and weather fronts sit out to the West. Winds will be from the South and South West. Winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting 30 mph. Temps of 6C to 10C.

Tuesday – The first deep area of low pressure of the week sits out to our West 981 mb. After a dry start to the day with sunshine and cloud it will be a breezy start to the day. As the low pressure system moves passed the Western Isles we are going to see heavy and persistent rain moving across the Western Isles. This will be accompanied by winds gusting 20 to 40 mph. Reaching 60 mph possibly 70 mph for Uist and Barra and the strongest of the winds will be later in the evening. Winds will be from the South and South West. Temps of 5C to 9C but feeling colder in the wind chill.

Wednesday – The first area of low pressure clears away to the North. The next area of low pressure moves across the islands 970 mb. At this stage the strongest of winds is expected to be further south of the Western Isles but there is a lot of uncertainty yet at this stage. It will be a wet day across the Western Isles with spells of heavy and slow moving rain. Some sunny spells in the breaks in the cloud. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph, Winds will be mainly from the West and South West but for a time coming from the South East. Temps of 2C to 8C
