Sunday’s forecast – Winds ease eventually

Good afternoon a slightly earlier update as my plans for today haven’t quite worked out how I was expecting. But all good now. It is worth keeping in mind that the peak of the wind speeds will be this evening and overnight. One of the strongest gusts I have seen so far was from an unofficial weather station on Barra of 65 mph. As expected we are now under a showery regime across the islands with heavy showers and strong winds. Winds widely gusting 50 to 60 mph at the moment and today’s so high so far of 12.5C

The Met Office yellow weather warning for wind comes into force at 20:00 Saturday evening and expires at 17:00 Sunday afternoon the latest can be found via the Met Office website or app. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency also has a flood alert in force for the Western Isles. The latest can be found via the SEPA website. It is also worth being mindful they mention causeways in the alert.

Please do NOT use Western Isles Weather for the protection of life and property please follow local and national government issued warnings and advice. Please have more than one source for weather information in extreme weather, Such as the Met office and follow any advice and instructions from emergency responders.

This evening and Overnight – Further squally showers. These heavy and possibly thundery. Clear skies in between but still plenty cloud. Winds of 30 to 50 mph gusting 60 mph. For exposed coastal locations and along the West Coast winds gusting 65 to 75 mph at times.

Morning – Winds still gusting 20 to 40 mph at times reaching 50 mph but slowly easing down. Showers becoming less frequent with a mixture of sunshine and cloud.

Afternoon and evening – The winds finally start to drop further. Winds gusting to 40 mph in the afternoon to under 10 mph by the late evening. Mostly dry with sunshine and cloud than some clear skies later.

Winds will be from the North West and temps of 4C to 9C
