Friday’s forecast and beyond for the Western Isles – Brisk winds and rain at times.

Good evening Western Isles on this Thursday evening we are seeing rain and showers across Lewis and Harris. Drier for Uist and Barra with plenty of cloud. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph and today’s high of 6C

Fridays set up. Low pressure near Ireland will move along the English channel during the day. A shallow area of low pressure will form and move across the Western Isles later in the day before moving across Northern Scotland.

Overnight – A mixture of clear skies and cloud with some showers these will be occasionally heavy at times. Temps will rise towards double figures for Uist and Barra. Winds gusting 30 mph.

Morning – Sunshine and cloud. With scattered occasionally heavy showers. Some decent spells of sunshine in the breaks in the cloud. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Afternoon – Cloud increases across the Western isles with spells of rain heavy at times. Winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting 30 mph.

Evening – Further bands of rain will move across the Western isles this will be heavy at times. Plenty of cloud. The rain will become increasingly showery late in the day. Winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting 30 mph.

Winds will be from the West and North West shifting South West at times later. Temps of 3C to 9C

Saturday – Rain and squally showers moving across the Western Isles these will be wintry at times. Winds of 10 to 30 mph from the North West. Temps of 2C to 7C risk of morning frost and ice.

Sunday – A ridge of high pressure builds in and settles conditions down. It should be a mostly fine and dry with sunshine and cloud. A few isolated showers. Winds will ease and a risk of morning frost and ice. Winds will be from the North and North West around 10 to 30 mph. Temps of 1C to 7C

Monday – A band of heavy rain will sweep across the Western Isles overnight with some wintry showers. Behind it, we will sunshine and showers. Becoming drier later. Winds will be from the South and West. Gusting 20 to 40 mph in some spots reaching 50 mph. Temps of 2C to 9C

Tuesday – Lot of uncertainty as yet but there has been some indication of a deep and vigorous area of low pressure near Ireland. Lots of uncertainty on the exact track as yet. Currently, we would expect to see spells of rain sweeping across the Western Isles. Winds gusting 20 to 40 mph at times reaching 50 mph. Winds from the East and South East. Temps of 3C to 9C
