Thursday’s forecast – Wet and Gales then wintry

Good evening Western Isles on this Wednesday evening we are seeing a mixture of clear skies and cloud. A few scattered showers. Winds under 20 mph and temps are close or just below freezing.

A reminder a Met Office yellow water warning for snow and ice comes into force at 20:00 on Thursday evening and expires at 11:00 Friday morning. Overnight – Cler skies and cloud with temps getting down to -2C but will increase as the night goes on as cloud and rain spread in. Frost and ice in patches. This will become heavy and persistent. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph.

Morning and afternoon – Heavy and at times persistent rain will spread across the islands. This will be accompanied by strengthening winds gusting 50 to 60 mph. The rain by late afternoon will turn increasingly squally.

Evening – Winds will ease down from the earlier peak. A mixture of clear skies and cloud with squally showers. Some wintry showers and a few of these will be thundery in nature. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Winds will be from the South and South West. Temps of -2C to 8C

Friday – Sleet and snow showers to start the day turning to rain later as conditions become milder. Winds of 20 to 40 mph from the West. Temps of 1C to 8C

Saturday – Heavy rain to start with brisk winds gusting 20 to 40 mph from the West and South West. Temps of 2C to 9C

Sunday – A day of sunshine and showers with brisk winds. Winds will be from the West and South West. Temps of 2C to 9C

Monday – Another windy day with winds gusting 40 to 50 mph at times reaching 60 mph from the South and South West. Temps of 6C to 12C
