Friday’s forecast – A taste of winter

Good evening Western Isles on this Thursday evening we are seeing sleet and snow showers across the islands falling as rain in places. Winds of 20 to 40 mph and today’s high of 7.4C

A reminder a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice comes into force at 20:00 tonight and expires at 12:00 Friday afternoon.

Overnight – A mixture of clear skies and cloud. Rain and showers. These will be wintry at times with some sleet and snow falling. Some of the showers will be thundery at times. Some accumulations of snow at times. The greatest risk will be over higher ground. Risk of frost and ice as temps drop close to or below freezing. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Morning and afternoon – Sunshine and cloud. Some decent spells of sunshine in the breaks in the cloud. Wintry showers with some further sleet and snow. Some of the showers turning to rain. At times the showers could be thundery. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Evening – A mixture of clear skies and cloud with further wintry showers but these will be fairly scattered. Some frost and ice. Winds under 20 mph.

Winds will be from the West and Temps of 1C to 6C

Saturday – A day of sunshine and showers. Heavy at times. With the heaviest of the rain in the morning. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph. Winds will be from the West. Temps of 0C to 7C

Sunday – Winds easing sunshine and cloud. Winds will be from variable directions under 20 mph. Temps of 3C to 8C

Monday – Further heavy rain and strong winds. Winds gusting 40 to 50 mph from the South West. Temps of 4C to 10C

Tuesday – Fine dry day with sunshine and cloud. Winds will be light under 20 mph from the South West. Temps of 3C to 8C
