Good morning Western Isles this is your morning briefing

Again this is likely to be a longer morning briefing than normal. A reminder the Western Isles Council has a statement on their social media regarding today’s severe weather.

So the Met Office Amber warning comes into force at 17:00 Sunday evening and expires at 06:00 Monday morning. A yellow warning comes into force two hours earlier at 15:00 and expires six hours later at 18:00. The full warning and latest updates can be found via the Met Office website or app.

Please do NOT use Western Isles Weather for the protection of life and property please follow local and national government issued warnings and advice. Please have more than one source for weather information in extreme weather, Such as the Met office and follow any advice and instructions from emergency responders.

On this Sunday morning, we are seeing rain and drizzle moving across the Western isles. Plenty of cloud. Winds under 20 mph and an overnight low of 2.5C

Today – Rain is already feeding across the Western Isles this will become heavy and persistent and slow moving. This will last into the late evening before turning showery and squally. Some of the showers at this point will be wintry and thundery at times. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph. As the passage of the area of low pressure moves across the Western Isles, we will see winds increase and temperatures drop. Winds will move from the South and South West and come in from the North West. This is where we will see winds gusting 70 to 80 mph possibly in some spots gusting 90 mph. This will happen between 4 pm and 8 pm, not all places will hit the strongest winds with the passage of the low may just gust to 60 mph. After the low clears winds will still gust 50 to 65 mph. Please be safe. There is the chance that things that were damaged yesterday could be weakened further by additional strong winds. I know we are used to strong winds leaving up here but would rather everyone keep safe this is going to be a period of sustained strong winds this is worth taking seriously.

Monday and Tuesday – Staying windy with squally showers wintry at times gusting 40 to 50 mph.

Wednesday – Brisk winds showers. Overcast with sunny spells.

Have a great day.
