Saturday’s forecast for the Western isles – Cold

Good evening Western Isles on this Friday evening we are seeing rain, sleet and snow showers moving across the Western Isles. A mixture of clear skies and cloud. Winds gusting 40 to 50 mph and today’s high of 5.3C

A reminder a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in force until 23:59 this evening for large parts of Lewis and Harris. A yellow weather warning for snow comes into force at 17:00 Saturday evening and expires at 15:00 Sunday afternoon for Lewis and Harris. For the latest see the Met Office website or app.

Overnight – Spells of rain and showers heavy at times with sleet and snow moving in. Turning milder for a time so at times will be a rain and sleet combination. Some frost and ice is possible before the temperatures rise. Clear skies and cloud. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph.

Morning and Afternoon – Sunshine and cloud. Some decent spells of sunshine in the breaks in the cloud. Frequent squally showers. Wintry at times. Thundery showers are possible but the risk is fairly low. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 to 60 mph.

Evening – Increasing snow showers moving across Lewis and Harris. Increasing chance of covering of snow in places. More sleet and snow showers for Uist and Barra but even for a time, we will see some snow showers. Hail mixed in with some of the heavier showers. As temps drop again with a risk of frost and ice. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph possibly 60 mph for a time.

Winds will be from the West and South West. Temps of -1C to 7C

Wednesday – Brisk winds sunshine and cloud. Sleet and snow move in again later. Winds of 20 to 40 mph gusting 50 mph. Temps of 3C to 9C
