Monday will also be a wet day with some parts of the islands that could see up to 20 mm of rainfall

Overnight – Clear skies and cloud. Cloud increases as the night goes on. Some early morning sunny spells. Winds under 20 mph.

Morning – Sunshine and cloud with some decent prolonged sunshine with plenty of cloud. A few scattered showers. Winds under 20 mph.

Afternoon – Overcast for most with some sunshine. Rain will slowly spread into Barra, Vatersay and then South Uist becoming heavy. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Evening – Rain will feed across the Western Isles this will become heavy and persistent. All parts of the Western Isles will see rain by the end of the evening. Some drizzle at times. Winds of 10 to 30 mph with some gusts reaching 40 mph.

Winds will be from the South and South West shifting South East to end the day. Temps of 9C to 17C

It’s been another fairly dull day. Thursday and Friday gave us 24 hours of sunshine at Stornoway Aiport which has increased the total month to 61.3 hours of sunshine which is still only about 46% of the long term average.

As you can see from this chart some parts of the island could get down to single figures overnight. Also highlights that some parts of the mainland could get down to 5C

Monday – Sunshine and cloud with light winds. Some rain moving in later in the day. Winds under 20 mph till the late evening gusting 30 mph from the South and South West shifting South East to end the day. Temps of 9C to 16C

Later into next week after a spell of high pressure two areas of low pressure will bring more unsettled weather for the middle of next weather as highlighted in the chart below for Tuesday

Tuesday and Wednesday – Brisk winds gusting 20 to 40 mph with cloud and spells of rain heavy at times. Temps of 9C to 7C

Looking further ahead and its looking like things might turn more settled high pressure dominating towards the end of next week and the second week of August. Something I keeping an eye on.

Good evening Western isles on this Tuesday evening we are seeing a mixture of sunshine and cloud with some scattered showers mainly confined to Lewis and Harris. Winds under 20 mph and today’s high of 14.7C

I was hoping for more sunshine today across our islands. There was some sunshine but again it was dull in Stornoway where the Met Office site is. So far until today, Stornoway has had just 34 hours of sunshine for the month with just 1.4 hours of sunshine a day on average. Just 26% of the average sunshine for the month after 82% of the month. The graphic I am about to share will hopefully make it clearer.

Good evening Western Isles on this Saturday evening we are seeing rain and showers. Some of these are intense in places. The very heaviest of the rain has cleared away. Winds gusting 40 mph and today’s high of 17.1C

Today has seen some heavy and slow moving rain across the Western Isles here are some of the rainfall totals and rainfall accumulation for the last 12 hours.

SEPA Rainfall sites in the Western Isles have recorded 14 mm of rainfall at Millcroft and 9.8mm at Laxdale Harris. With 11 mm of rainfalling at the Met Office South Uist range site.

Sunday we are going to see yet more rain. Things have been relitvitly dry so shouldn’t cause too many issues just quite a bit of surface water around

The worst of the rainfall could stay out to sea. The rain will turn more showery into the evening and there is a slight risk that some of these showers could turn thundery for a time. Winds of 20 to 40 mph with some gusts reaching 50 mph are possible from the South East. Temps of 12C to 18C

Good evening Western Isles on this Monday evening we are seeing a humid end to the day. It’s mainly overcast with some rain moving across the islands heavy in places. Winds under 20 mph. Today’s high of 20.4C at Stornoway Airport is the highest at either Met Office site in the Western Isles this year.

Also makes it the highest temperature at the Stornoway site since the 31st of May 2021. Todays forecast played out how I feared it would with mist low cloud and fog. This impacted temperatures and the amount of sunshine.

Hello and welcome to the final festival forecast for 2022. This time it’s the EDF festival on the isle of Benbecula. We will be doing forecasts for each day of the festival which starts on Thursday. These updates will either be posted first thing in the morning or early afternoon.

In this first blog post, we are going to look at the trends and how things are looking for each day of the festival from tomorrow we will go more in depth with the forecast for each day.

So Thursday and Friday are looking fine and dry with sunshine and cloud. Still more cloud than we would like to see but the best of the sunshine looks set to be on Thursday afternoon. Saturday there is a lot of uncertainty at this stage as to how wet it might get but we might see some heavy rain moving across the island. It’s looking overcast as well on Saturday. Winds largely under 20 mph. Temps of 11C to 16C so about average for this time of year.

The next update will be out Tuesday morning.

Good evening Western Isles on this Sunday evening are seeing rain moving across South Uist and barra with plenty of cloud and some clear skies. Winds under 20 mph and today’s high of 18.2C at Stornoway Met Office site.

This evening temperatures are still widely around 15C to 17C so quite a warm end to the day up in the islands.

Monday

We are likely to see our highest temperatures of the year so far on Monday widely across the islands with 20C possible during the day

Overnight – We are going to see further rain moving across the Western Isles. Heavy at times Plenty of cloud. Some drizzle in places but for most becoming dry before the end of the night. Overnight low of 12C

Morning and afternoon – Any morning rain and drizzle will clear away. It should be largely fine and dry but a few heavy scattered showers are possible. Some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine at times but depending on how stubborn the cloud is to shift will have a bearing on how high the temperatures will get. There is also a risk of mist and low cloud spreading in which also could hinder temperatures. Winds under 20 mph.

Evening – Again sunshine and cloud with light winds. Some decent and prolonged sunshine with some mist and low cloud. Winds under 20 mph.

Winds will be from variable directions and temps of 12C to 21C

Outlook

Tuesday and Wednesday – Some uncertainty as yet but looks like being a mixture of sunshine and cloud. Feeling warm again on Tuesday with high teen temps. Showers that will at times be heavy and possibly thundery. Winds will be from the South West under 20 mph. Temps of 11C to 19C

The Met Office also brings up the risk of possibly thundery showers later in the week

Next weekend – Lots of uncertainty as yet depending on the position of low pressure. But it at this stage it’s looking unsettled.
