Tuesday 16th August Weather forecast for the Western Isles.

Good evening Western Isles on this Monday evening we are seeing a mixture of clear skies and cloud. Winds under 20 mph and today’s high of 15.2C

Mist and low cloud once again caused issues with ferry delays and cancellations today along with Plane delays and cancellations. This is one of the worst summers I can remember for Mist and Fog we always get spells of it during the summer months but I don’t remember it being this frequent.

For Tuesday high pressure starts to build in behind the cold front that is slowly moving across from the West Coast of Scotland. As shown by the Met Office chart below.

Overnight – Some rain and drizzle with some mist and low cloud. Increasing amounts of clear skies. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Morning and afternoon – Some lingering mist and fog should clear away. Increasing sunshine with some scattered heavy showers. Some decent and prolonged afternoon sunshine. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.

Evening – Most of the showers will clear away a few well scattered showers in places. For most a fine and dry end to the day with variable amounts of cloud and decent and prolonged sunshine. Winds of 10 to

30 mph.

Winds will be from the North and Temps of 8C to 14C

Sunrise and Sunset

Stornoway – 05:49 and 21:09

South Uist – 05:57 and 21:10

The mid to end of this week and the weather is going to turn more like Autumn and when I say that stronger winds and spells of rain with areas of low pressure moving across the islands as opposed to settled misty and overcast conditions.

Wednesday – Sunshine and cloud with light winds until the evening which will gust 30 mph later. Winds of 10 to 30 mph and temps of 12C to 15C

You can see the low pressure system that will bring more unsettled weather on Thursday across the islands. This image comes from WX Charts and the EC Model 12z run.

will be a day of sunshine and showers and brisk winds. Winds of 10 to 30 mph with some gusts reaching 40 mph. Temps of 12C to 18C

Friday – Again sunshine and showers these will be heavy at times. Some decent spells of sunshine. Winds of 20 to 40 mph. Temps of 10C to 15C

Saturday and Sunday – More of the same with sunshine and showers along with brisk winds. Winds of 20 to 40 mph from the South and South West. Temps of 10C to 16C
