Thursday 18th August Weather forecast for the Western Isles.

Good evening Western Isles on this Wednesday evening we are seeing plenty of cloud with some rain and drizzle. Some clear spells. Winds gusting 25 mph and today’s high of 13.8C ( Please note the South Uist site was not working correctly for a few hours today so today’s high could have been different )

It was a cold start to the day for Lewis and Harris with 4.7C being recorded at Stornoway Airport. Stornoway was in the bottom 10 of cold temperature for overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The image below is from Roost Weather showing the overnight minimums.

The temperature jumped from 5.2C to 11C between 6 and 7 am this morning. Again the image below comes from Roost Weather


Low pressure dominates our weather on Thursday across the islands as highlight on the Met Office surface pressure chart.

Overnight – Clear skies and cloud. But cloud increases as the night goes on with some rai nand drizzle along with mist and low cloud. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Morning and afternoon – Some lingering rain and drizzle. Increasing amounts of sunshine. Turning showery for late morning and afternoon turning heavy at times with some decent and prolonged sunshine in between the showers. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Evening – Showers will move across the islands which will be heavy at times. Some spells of sunshine in between. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.

Winds will be from the South West and temps of 11C of 18C

Low pressure will drive our weather across the islands over the weekend. We will also see brisk winds.

Friday – We are going to see spells of rain and showers heavy at times. Some decent sunny spells in between. Winds of 20 to 40 mph from the South West. Temps of 11C to 17C

Saturday – Overnight Friday into Saturday we are going to see some heavy rain moving across the Western Isles we could see up to 15 mm in some spots. Winds gusting 40 mph. Into Saturday a day of sunshine and showers along with brisk winds. Winds of 20 to 40 mph from the South West. Temps of 11C to 16C

Sunday – A fine and dry day with sunshine and cloud and lighter winds. Winds under 20 mph from the South West. Temps of 11C to 15C

Monday – Sunshine and cloud with rain and showers along with winds of 10 to 30 mph. Temps of 11C to 16C
