Good evening Western Isles and we are back with our daily forecasts for the islands. You can find daily in depth forecasts on our Western Isles Weather blog. We have twice daily updates on our Facebook page and Twitter usually in the morning and the evening. Our morning briefing is shared on our Instagram page.
We will once again this autumn and winter be guiding you across all the severe weather across the islands and updating you with all the latest warnings and severe weather updates.
Back to this evening. We are seeing plenty of cloud across the Western Isles with some rain and drizzle. This is heavy in places. Winds gusting 30 mph and today’s high of 16.2C
On the surface pressure chart below from the Met Office, we can see low pressure has moved across the island on Monday with weather fronts bringing the unsettled weather on Sunday and again on Monday. To the far South West, a broad area of low pressure is the leftovers of former hurricane Earl. High pressure will keep that system away from the UK
Overnight – Sunday into Monday will see further heavy rain and this will clear away as the night goes on to a mixture of clear skies and cloud then scattered showers. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.
Morning and afternoon – Some decent and prolonged spells of sunshine at times. Further showers heavy at times and at times in the late morning and afternoon we will see some longer spells of rain at times. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.
Evening – The heaviest of the rain will clear away from the islands. For most, it will be a drier end to the day with a few scattered showers. Some decent and prolonged sunshine before sunset. Winds of 20 to 40 mph.
Winds will be from the North West. Temps of 11C to 15C
Sunrise and Sunset
Stornoway – 06:48 and 19:55
South Uist – 06:53 and 19:58
High pressure is expected to build back in as we move into the middle of the week. But it isn’t likely to be as warm as we saw for the first full week of September.
Tuesday – Sunshine and cloud. A few scattered showers. The best of the sunshine will be in the morning. Winds under 20 mph from the North West. Temps of 11C to 15C
Wednesday and Thursday – More of the same really. A mixture of sunshine and cloud with a few scattered showers. These will be heavy at times. Winds of 10 to 30 mph. Temps of 9C to 15C
Friday – We will see a cooler day with a mixture of sunshine and cloud. Scattered showers. Winds will be from the North and North West. Temps of 8C to 13C
This is highlighted in this chart from the GFS for next Friday from WX Charts which shows the cooler air moving across Northern Scotland. Daytime lows down to 8C and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw lower overnight lows. I will keep you updated.
Next weekend – A long way off as yet but looking like a fairly settled weekend with plenty of cloud and turning milder towards the end of the weekend with temps back into the mid teens.
Thanks for reading and for your continued support.
