Good afternoon Western isles. Just doing an update this afternoon as there will be no update this evening. Thanks.
It has been a wet day across the islands so far. With some heavy and persistent rain. This has been heavier than I anticipated it would be. We are also seeing blustery winds. The low pressure dominated theme will continue across this weekend and into early next week with some signals of a more settled pattern for the latter half of next week.
Thursday update – We are going to see the band of heavy and persistent rain moving across the islands clearing away to sunshine and scattered showers these heavy at times. Before another band of rain moves in later in the evening. The winds should peak in the next few hours gusting 50 mph.
Friday – We are going to see frequent rain and squally showers with some sunny spells in the breaks in the cloud. Some of the showers could be thundery for a time. In the afternoon and early evening, we will have some decent spells of sunshine. Clear skies and cloud are expected after sunset but rain will start feeding in from the West and become increasingly heavy and persistent. Winds will be from the West and South West around 10 to 30 mph but some overnight gusts Thursday into Friday will reach 40 mph for a time. Temps of 6C to 11C so a cooler start to the day on Friday.
Saturday – A wet start to the day with spells of heavy rain clearing mid afternoon to showers but plenty of cloud. Winds of 10 to 30 mph from the South East.
Sunday – At this stage, it looks like Sunday will be a largely fine and dry day with sunshine and cloud. A few scattered showers again we are expecting some heavier rain to move in later in the day on Sunday as we go overnight into Monday. Winds of 10 to 30 mph.
Monday – A lot of uncertainty as yet with Monday. One possibility we see an area of low pressure scoot past the islands early on Monday so staying mainly fine and dry with sunshine and cloud. The other possibility is a broader area of low pressure brings rain and showers with blustery winds. I will keep you updated but will very much depend on the placement of the low pressure system.
Rest of the week – So beyond Monday and there is some strong signals that high pressure will finally settle things down at least for a couple of days. It would be nice to get a break from this relentless barrage of low pressure systems.
Have a good afternoon
