The weather Ramble 20th November

Good evening all. Things for joining me for this weather ramble. Just a blog about the weather. It can be in our islands. The UK or the world.

I have written a forecast this evening for Monday and the week ahead which can be found on this blog below this update.

We have seen a bit of a chilly evening with temps dropping down to 3C but already recovering at Stornoway to 5C

The first thing that has caught my attention this evening is the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for winds for Monday in the South West of the UK an area known for getting some strong winds off the Atlantic. They do highlight some uncertainty in the tweet about the warning

It looks like the very worst of the winds will stay offshore – 80 mph is possible which is quite something. One to watch for sure

From the USA and some parts of Buffalo have seen 77 inches of snow. Some of the footage has been utterly insane to witness. This link below has some great coverage

One heck of a snowstorm

Sunday 13th November forecast for the Western Isles.

Good evening Western Isles it has been a wet few days across our islands. Thankfully today was a drier day. It’s been a mild day and this will slowly change as we go into next week with some colder weather.

This highlighted in this excellent graphic tweet from the Met Office

Today’s high at the Met Office sites in Stornoway and South Uist were 13.8C at South Uist and 12.1C at Stornoway. These temperatures are well above average for this time of year.

Trends – So the general trend for the rest of this weekend and into next week is for things to stay unsettled with further spells of rain. Strongest winds are expected for Uist and Barra, I am not expecting to see as high rainfall totals as we have seen this week.

Sunday

A mostly dry morning and afternoon with a few scattered showers. However, rain will move into the Barra and then South Uist and further Northwards by the end of the day. Rain will be heavy at times. Before the rain arrives we should see some decent spells of sunshine in the breaks in the cloud. There will be a lot of cloud. Winds of 10 to 30 mph gusting 40 to 50 mph the strongest of the winds for Uist and Barra. Some gusts here could reach 60 mph. Temps of 9C to 14C

Monday

A cold front on Monday will bring spells of rain and showers and this will be heavy at times. Some sunny spells. Winds of 10 to 30 mph from the South East. Temps of 9C to 13C

Tuesday

An Atlantic low pressure system ( as shown in the Met Office surface pressure chart below) will bring rounds of rain across the Western isles on Tuesday again heavy at times. Winds for most around 20 to 40 mph but again for Uist and Barra gusting 50 mph. Temps of 7c to 12C so a little cooler.

Wednesday

Will be a day of sunshine and showers these will be heavy at times and accompanied by a brisk South Easterly wind gusting 20 to 40 mph. Temps of 7C to 11C

Have a great evening
